Twinplast, the UK’s leading corrugated plastic manufacturer, has been operating since 1986 and is the country’s only dedicated manufacturer and supplier of corrugated polypropylene solutions. When they decided to install the machinery for a completely new manufacturing production line, Cadman Cranes was called upon to assist with this critical project.

A Specialist Lifting Solution Tailored to Twinplast’s Needs

The challenges of this project were twofold: moving the loads from the external offload position to the inside of the factory and positioning the new production line with precise tolerances. To address these challenges, we utilised our mechanical machinery movement equipment and executed a meticulously planned approach.

The heaviest load we handled during this installation was 8.5 tonnes, and to accomplish the offloading of the new machinery, we employed our newest crane, the Liebherr LTM 1050-3.1. This 50-tonne crane is equipped with cutting-edge technology and incredible versatility, making it the perfect tool for the job.

Overcoming Challenges with Precision and Skill

The initial challenge involved transferring the machinery from the crane to inside the factory. After the crane lifted the load, it was landed at ground level and jacked up using toe jacks. From there, the load was placed on a machinery moving steering skate set, allowing for smooth manoeuvring to its required position. We also employed a forklift to minimise manual handling and, where possible, used the factory’s overhead gantry crane to unload the machinery from the skates.

Once inside, the installation posed another challenge due to the tight manufacturing tolerances of the equipment. The positioning of individual pieces required a 1mm tolerance on the alignment. This high level of precision was achieved by the skill, care, and attention to detail of our team on the ground, working closely with Twinplast’s installation crew.

A Testament to Careful Planning and Expert Execution

The success of this project can be attributed to careful planning, proper consideration of the tasks at hand, and the expert execution by our team. Their ability, care, and meticulousness ensured the project’s successful completion, providing Twinplast with a seamlessly installed new production line.

At Cadman Cranes, we pride ourselves on delivering specialised lifting solutions that meet our customers’ unique needs, and this collaborative project for Twinplast was a perfect example of our capabilities in action.
