Big things take flight at Norwich Airport for Bond Helicopters
Crane Supervisor: Tony Sillett | Slinger Signaller: Steve Kemp | Crane Operator: Mark Tallowin
Making their way from South America to Norwich, we were pleased to assist Bond Helicopters/Gama Aviation and LCI Aviation with a full contract lift solution to welcome three Leonardo AW139 helicopters to their new UK base at Norwich Airport where they will be supporting a new 5-year offshore operations contract.
Unmatched versatility and exceptional safety take flight in the AW139, the world’s leading twin-engine helicopter in its class.
This multi-mission workhorse delivers superior performance, cutting-edge avionics, and advanced safety features, making it the ideal choice for a wide range of applications. With a spacious cabin that comfortably seats up to 15 passengers and the best power reserve in its class, the AW139 is ready to take on any challenge.
A specialist lifting solution designed just for our customers needs
Weighing upwards of 5.0 tonnes each, we utilised our Liebherr LTM1040-2.1 mobile crane to successfully transfer the helicopters to the client’s hangar for final preparations. With a lifting capacity of up to 40-tonnes, a telescopic boom reaching 35m and a max hoist height of 44m, it was the perfect tool for the job.
The LTM 1040-2.1 mobile crane boasts exceptional lifting capacities throughout its entire operating range. Its impressive 4-section telescopic boom extends quickly using a well-proven hydromechanical system, even with the boom under load. This versatility is further enhanced by a folding jib that enables a reach of up to 39 meters. Compared to its slightly smaller cousin, the LTM 1030-2.1, this crane offers an impressive five-tonne increase in lifting capacity.
Working on a Contract Lift basis ensured our client was protected from liability and covered by our own comprehensive insurance package.
